ABOUT US The Mountain Wanderer was opened in August 1998 by Steve Smith of Lincoln, NH. Steve has been a hiking enthusiast for over 30 years and is the author of several guidebooks as well as co-editor of the AMC White Mountain Guide.
Steve's wife, Carol, who has a real job as a school librarian, is pressed into service at the store on occasion in the summer. Carol completed her New Hampshire 4000-footers in 2002 and is looking forward to bagging the New England 4's!
Both Steve and his good friend Mike Dickerman (who covers the store occasionally) have climbed New Hampshire’s 4000-Footers in summer and winter and have “bagged” the New England Hundred Highest. In 2001 they co-authored a guide to the White Mountain 4000-footers, with a new edition coming out in 2008. Both are also White Mountain trail adopters and members of the AMC Four Thousand Footer Committee. All of us look forward to sharing our enthusiasm for the White Mountains and the Northeast outdoors with you!
